Take some comfort from a couple of guys that have been down the road before you…
Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.
~Jeremiah 1:8 (KJV)
And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.
~ Ezekiel 2:6 (KJV)
A pastoral leader doesn’t need to be everyone’s best friend to lead well. He does need to faithfully discharge his ministry received from God. Sometimes that means ruffling feathers or as Peter put it, stirring things up. So the next time someone’s nose is out of joint, don’t be “afraid of their faces“, “nor be dismayed at their looks“.
