Heath Ledger - Absurd Response

The sad passing of talented Australian actor, Heath Ledger, has prompted many sincere expressions of condolences for his family and the loss to the artistic community in general. Most notably the report that Jake Gyllenhaal, has offered to provide for Matilda’s upbringing.

What is truly appalling though is the report of publicity sought by an extremist hate group in Kansas.

As an Australian, the phrase, “It’s Just Not Cricket” comes to mind. Except I would modify it to “It’s Just Not Christian!”

Who’s ‘da man?!

A friend recently recommended the film, World Trade Centre, starring Nicolas Cage. In particular he focused on the character of David Karnes as an example of courage and adventure etc.

I think there’s a distinction to be made between men who are inspiring and men who are good/great examples of manliness.

If they are held up as “examples” then Joe Average is never going to measure up because he’s never walked into a burning pile of rubble to rescue someone. Whereas if they are an “inspiration” their bravado can be used to motivate men.
