Historical congruence of scripture (whilst not contradictory or erroneous) is coincidental to the narrative’s main intent. The record primarily testifies of God’s character, not detailed specifics of the events themselves.
e.g. Genesis 1 is not as much about creationism as it is about the creator.
The benefits of miracles / acts described in scripture were secondary to what God is revealing about himself. Jesus healing demonstrates his power over disease etc has the side effect of people being healed – but that’s not the primary purpose of Jesus’ act – check John 9:3 – this was done to glorify the Lord by displaying his mighty work.

Thanks Cath.
The Bible never contradicts true science or history.
We are the product of a special deliberate creation by the author of Life not the result of death, competition and random chance. As such we have an awesome purpose in, as the Westminister divines so well said, to glorify God and enjoy him forever

I agree with you. Genesis 1 is a very important chapter. I think it emphasises how important we are to God; that he took time to create a beautiful world in which to place us. It is the teaching of the origin of our species as ‘truth’ in schools that is causing so many problems in our society. Young people are taught that they are the result of a random act (evolution) rather than a thoughful one (creation). When a person realises that God created them for a purpose, and they aren’t subject to the survival of the fittest mindset, that they truly begin to feel their self-worth.
